A Word From The Founder - Charlene Guthrie

About Charlene

Charlene’s compassion for people with special needs surfaced when she was in middle school, when she found herself mothering a couple of children with special needs that rode her same bus to school.  She expanded her reach by watching over these girls in the lunch room. Charlene began volunteering in the room that serviced children with special needs and babysitting for children with special needs.  This passion set the course for her college direction where she majored in special education, eventually obtained her masters, specializing in autism before earning her education administrative license. Charlene invested over thirty years serving these special people in the public school system.

However, she was plagued by the fact that her students had limited opportunities once they left the school system.  She launched Charlene’s Angels to provide a vibrant, robust and appropriate option for these special adults.  The programming is designed to help mitigate intellectual or physical disabilities by: promoting adaptive skill development to foster success in real life situations; community integration to optimize their personal, social, & vocational competency; teach independent life skills to help clients navigate community assets & a biblical approach to life. Everyone of the “Angels” is on a developmental journey and we are asking that you join us to help advance dialogue and refine our approach to elevate the environment for our special adult population.
